Formerly “oriental”: vanilla, labdanum, benzoin, balsams and spices — a warm resinous base.
The resinous balsamic accord is built from resins and balsams: frankincense, myrrh, labdanum, benzoin, opoponax, elemi, styrax, tolu and Peru balsam. They are gathered from cuts in the bark of trees and shrubs — just as they were thousands of years ago for temple incense.
It sounds deep, warm and a little solemn: from bright lemony frankincense to dense vanilla-like benzoin. Resins are extremely long-lasting and give a composition a “velvety” base.
