Family Chypre
Bergamot, rose and jasmine over oakmoss, labdanum and patchouli — dry, earthy, noble.
The chypre accord is a classic structure: bergamot on top, rose and jasmine in the heart, oakmoss, labdanum and patchouli in the base. The name comes from François Coty’s Chypre (1917) — “Cyprus”. After IFRA restrictions on oakmoss perfumers rebuilt the chypre, but its dry earthy character is still recognisable today.
It sounds noble, restrained and intellectual: citrus freshness in the opening turns into a mossy, slightly bitter depth. Chypres can be floral, fruity, green or leathery — a family for those who value character over sweetness.
