Tanned leather, birch tar, suede, tobacco and smoke — from cuir de Russie to soft suede.
The leather accord is not made from leather: it is recreated with birch tar, castoreum, styrax, saffron and molecules such as Suederal. The “cuir de Russie” style was born from the fashion for Russian leather treated with birch tar — perfumers began to imitate its smoky scent.
It sounds noble, slightly smoky and animalic — from rough tanned hide to soft suede. Leather pairs beautifully with iris, rose, tobacco, oud and incense and lends a fragrance maturity.
