The mossy accord comes from oakmoss (a lichen from oak bark) and tree moss: damp, earthy, with a hint of forest floor and a faintly salty depth. It is the foundation of chypres and classic fougères.
Moss sounds shady and noble, giving a fragrance “roots” and longevity. Modern perfumers use purified moss or its substitutes, keeping the same dark green character.
