Suederal is a modern synthetic ingredient created to convey the scent of suede: soft leather with a napped, velvety surface. It gives a suede note without the harshness of classic leather accords.
How it smells: soft, powdery and velvety: fine tanned leather, a light fruity (faintly apricot) shade, a warm dryness. Suederal sounds tender and close to the skin, like gloves of fine suede.
Unlike heavy leather notes with tar and smoke, suede molecules sound light and delicate. So they are readily used in modern unisex fragrances, where leather should be felt but not be rough.
What it pairs with: with iris — the classic powdery suede, with raspberry — fruity leather, with saffron — warm spiced leather, with musk — a “second skin”, with woods — modern dry compositions.
Good to know: Suederal is almost never named in fragrance pyramids — it usually hides behind the simple word “suede”.
