1709 Original Eau de Cologne

SKU: 15036801 Brand: Farina 1709 Category: Perfumes

Original Eau de Cologne is not just a fragrance but literally the birth of an entire category of perfumery. Giovanni Maria Farina, an Italian who settled in Cologne, created this composition in 1709 and named it after his new home city — and so the very word “eau de cologne” came about. The opening is bright bergamot combined with lemon, bitter orange and lime — sunny, clean, almost crisp. In the heart, tender jasmine with neroli unfolds, adding floral lightness without sweetness. The base is restrained and delicate: amber and musk only lightly anchor the composition without adding weight. It is an elegant, never intrusive fragrance that accompanies its wearer all day. The formula is carefully kept and produced in Cologne by the ninth generation of the Farina family — the very house whose fragrance was worn by Napoleon, Goethe, Queen Victoria and Empress Sisi.

How to wear

Ideal for spring and summer, although its classic light structure is appropriate all year round. Wear it in the daytime — as an everyday fresh companion, to work, on walks, in any everyday moments. Thanks to its light concentration it can be applied generously and refreshed during the day. Complete the look with light classic fabrics — linen, cotton, pale shades. The fragrance will underline your cleanness, elegance and connection with the living history of perfumery — unisex, for those who value classic citrus compositions and genuine heritage.

About the fragrance

Fresh bergamot, floral lightness and a gentle warmth — the original “Eau de Cologne” is a timeless fragrance with a centuries-old history. Johann Maria Farina created it in 1709 in Cologne, laying the foundation of modern perfumery. The composition unites fresh citrus notes with refined floral shades and a restrained base of musk and amber. Elegant and never intrusive, the fragrance accompanies its wearer all day — clean, balanced and inimitable.

In the words of the perfumer Johann Maria Farina (1685–1766): “My fragrance is like an Italian spring morning after the rain: oranges, grapefruits, lemons, bergamot, citron, lime, as well as the flowers and herbs of my homeland.”
