A third-generation perfumer: in 1925 his grandfather founded the company Destilerías Maurice Carbonnel (now Carbonnel S.A.) in Barcelona, and Christian grew up in the world of fragrance from an early age, learning the craft from his father. An interesting fact: by Spanish tradition a person bears the surnames of both parents, so his full name is Christian Carbonnel Maurice. For the family business he signs with his passport name, while for work with outside niche brands he chose the concise international pseudonym Chris Maurice. Under it he has created many fragrances for Xerjoff — notably Alexandria II, Lira, Erba Pura and Torino21. For ten years he worked side by side with the master Rosendo Mateu, and together they signed a number of fragrances — among them Kajal Homme II.
Carbonnel is a master of bold, bright and very expressive compositions. He is equally at home with luxurious oriental perfumery built on oud, resins and spices and with juicy, joyful fruity-floral accords. His fragrances are generous, striking and long-lasting — perfumes that get noticed and remembered.
