Egypt is one of the world's largest producers of geranium (pelargonium) oil: the plant is grown in the Nile valley, and the oil is distilled from the leaves and stems several times a year. Egyptian geranium is the most widely used in modern perfumery.
It sounds warmer and sweeter than Chinese geranium: fresh rosy foliage, a light minty and lemony shade, a soft floral sweetness without a sharp metallic greenness. Egyptian geranium makes compositions rounded and “rosy”, especially in masculine fougères.
