Pierre Bourdon

Names: Pierre Bourdon (English, French) · П'єр Бурдон (Ukrainian) · Пьер Бурдон (Russian)
Born: 1946, Paris, France
Specialization: perfumer, author of world classics; co-author of Green Irish Tweed for Creed

The son of a director of the house of Christian Dior. He first studied political science, but in 1971 a meeting with the legendary Edmond Roudnitska changed everything: he spent five years studying perfumery at the Roure school in Grasse, founded by Jean Carles, and under Edmond Roudnitska. In 1981 he created Kouros for Yves Saint Laurent, and the following year he co-founded Takasago Europe, where he worked as chief perfumer and created Cool Water for Davidoff — a fragrance that changed men's perfumery in the 1980s.

Bourdon is an architect of freshness. His fragrances have a clear, recognisable construction: fougère and aquatic accords, bold contrasts, a perfect balance of fresh and warm. Much of what is considered a “classic men's fragrance” today came straight out of his formulas.
