Jean-Paul Guerlain

Jean-Paul Guerlain

Names: Jean-Paul Guerlain (English, French) · Жан-Поль Герлен (Ukrainian, Russian)
Born: 9 December 1937, Paris, France
Specialization: the fourth and last family master perfumer of the house Guerlain

The grandson of Jacques Guerlain, he learned the secrets of the family craft from his grandfather. He created his first fragrance in 1959 — the masculine Vétiver, which remains the benchmark of its genre to this day. Then came Chant d'Arômes (1962), Habit Rouge (1965) — one of the first masculine “oriental” fragrances — Chamade (1969), Samsara (1989) and Héritage (1992). In 2002 he ended his career as master perfumer but remained an adviser to his successor until 2010.

Jean-Paul Guerlain is a guardian of a great tradition who was able to give it a modern voice. His fragrances are luxurious, sensual and enduring: sandalwood, vanilla, rose, jasmine, citrus — all with the signature Guerlain warmth. His classics went beyond fashion and became part of the history of perfumery.
