Frank Voelkl

Names: Frank Voelkl (English, French, German) · Франк Фелькль (Ukrainian) · Франк Фёлькль (Russian)
Born: Bonn, Germany
Specialization: senior perfumer at Firmenich (since 2005); author of fragrances for Nomenclature Fragrances and Le Labo
Born in Bonn, he grew up between France and the Netherlands. He studied at the ISIPCA school; he created his first notable fragrance inspired by his Tahitian wife. He worked at Symrise, where in 2002 he met Le Labo founder Fabrice Penot, and in 2005 moved to Firmenich. In 2011 he created Santal 33 for Le Labo — one of the best-known niche fragrances of its time. He has also worked for Guerlain, Dolce & Gabbana and Hugo Boss.
Voelkl is a master of “skin-like”, intimate fragrances. His signature combinations — iris and musk, sandalwood and leather — sound warm, soft and very personal, like a person's own scent. His compositions for Nomenclature show his exploratory side: modern molecules, minimalism and a quiet, absorbing sensuality.
