The son of a flavourist who worked in the tobacco industry, he became fascinated by scents as a child. In 1985 he started as a trainee at IFF, and within a few months the legendary Bernard Chant and Carlos Benaïm chose him for perfumer training. He worked for ten years under Benaïm, then at Givaudan, Takasago and Fragrance Resources, and in 2009 joined Symrise. He creates fragrances for designer, niche and mass-market brands.

Viñals finds inspiration in Barcelona, Paris and Grasse, and also in the rainforests of Costa Rica and Brazil. His fragrances are emotional and colourful: tobacco, spices, woods and flowers sound juicy and bold in his hands. Experience of the great American school gives his compositions a clear structure and strength.
