Bubble gum is a playful gourmand accord conveying the smell of the pink bubble gum of childhood: sweet, fruity and a little vanillic. It is one of the most cheerful and nostalgic notes in perfumery.

How it smells: sweet, fruity and candy-like: banana, strawberry, a faint cherry and vanilla note, a light powdery shade. Bubble gum sounds playful, carefree and childishly joyful.

Classic bubble-gum flavour is a blend of fruity esters, most often with banana, strawberry and cherry notes, plus vanilla. Perfumers recreate this blend, adding a powdery softness so the fragrance is not too “edible”.

What it pairs with: with strawberry and raspberry — sweet fruity compositions, with vanilla and musk — soft skin scents, with flowers — playful fruity-floral bouquets, with caramel — gourmand desserts, with iris — powdery nostalgia.

Good to know: the pink colour of bubble gum came about by chance: in 1928 the inventor of the first bubble gum only had pink food colouring to hand.
